Anita Duran of Mt. Angel passed away Friday, July 20 ^th at her home in Salem surrounded by family. She was 86 years old and 11 months. She will celebrate her 87 ^th birthday on Thursday, July 26, 2018 in the loving arms of our Lord.
The daughter of Cayetano Cavazos and Lorenza Esparza she was born Ana Luiza Cavazos in Hebbronville, Texas on July 26, 1931. She married Adan Duran and together they had six children and adopted a granddaughter who they raised as their own. David (Mildred) of Naples, Florida; Arturo of Mt. Angel, Oregon; Belinda of Salem, Oregon; Rebecca (Dennis) of Willow, Alaska; Debbie (Chris) of Silverton, Oregon; Patricia of Woodburn, Oregon; and Cynthia of Wilsonville, Oregon.
She moved to Oregon from Chicago in 1969 where she would reside the rest of her life. She always remembered her Texas roots and loved spending time on the phone or visiting family in both Texas and New Mexico.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her ex-husband Adan, her brothers Roberto and Norberto and sisters Olivia, Lupita, Elisa, Alicia and Clodin, her two sons David and Arturo, and her grandson Marco Antonio.
Surviving in addition to her children and spouses are twenty-two grandchildren; thirty-three great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. Many other family (niece, nephews, great-nieces/nephews, great-great nieces/nephews) and friends both near and far survive as well.
Mom enjoyed cooking, canning, working, playing bingo, casino-hopping, traveling to visit family, but most of all, spending time with her family. Everything she did was always for someone else.
Mom had so many visitors and phone calls while in hospice care the past month. We know she felt the love everyone was giving to help her through her difficult journey. She was the strongest person we ever knew, and we are beyond blessed to have called her Mom, Grandma, Great-Grandma, Great-Great Grandma, Tia and Friend.
Viewing will be Tuesday, July 24, 2018 at Unger Funeral Chapel in Silverton from 4-7PM. Services will be at 11AM on Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at Unger Funeral Chapel in Silverton followed by burial at Calvary Cemetery in Mt. Angel. A reception will follow at the Silverton Wine Bar & Bistro.
