Anne Marie Mulligan, strong and determined as always, stayed with her family to ring in 2026, then peacefully glided away in the early morning hours of January 1st.

Born to George and Marie Smith on January 11, 1939, in South Dakota, she was the third of six children. The family moved to Oregon when she was four and settled on property east of Silverton. They farmed as well as operated a convenience store and service station. Anne's childhood was spent picking beans, playing with her sisters Janet and Lucille, watching her beloved little sister Joyce, begrudgingly sharing the bed with sister Elsie's Ginger cat, and riding on the tractor with her brother George.

Anne attended Thomas School and graduated from Silverton High School in 1957. She excelled in her studies and served as school treasurer. She was a competitive softball player, and a member of the winter court.

Anne won a scholarship to Good Samaritan Nursing School in Portland, where she worked after graduation, before buying a sporty red 1961 Chevy Corvair and setting off for Denver, Colorado. She was working in the ICU at St. Luke's Hospital, when she met Bill Mulligan. She enjoyed his sense of adventure, and they got married in St. Louis, Missouri in 1967. They honeymooned in the beautiful Ozarks, spent several weeks camping in Alaska, and traveled through Europe as newlyweds.

Anne and Bill moved back to Colorado, and started a family, welcoming Janay, Stacey, and Ryan. They lived in a cabin in the mountains of Evergreen, a little house overlooking the Denver skyline, and finally settled in the village of Louviers, where the family made some of the happiest memories of their lives. Anne was in her element: reading to the kids on the porch swing, turning errands into adventures in the Dodge Aspen station wagon, making holidays magical, packing the car for road trips, and ensuring that her family was wrapped in love and comfort.

The Mulligans moved one more time, to Silverton, Oregon in 1981. Anne was thrilled to be back on the property she loved so much, and she threw herself into raising sheep, tending her gardens, and eventually, being a grandma to Eric, Shawn, Mia, and Ben. She attended every game, concert, and performance for her kids and grandkids. Babies and kids were her greatest joys, and she loved being a mom and a grandma.

Anne Mulligan was highly intelligent, an extremely hard worker, stubborn, honest, and fiercely independent. She had a wonderful dry humor and loved to dance. When Alzheimer's crept into her life, she accepted the challenges with grace and was a good sport throughout her journey. Her family was given the gift of being able to experience Anne as she would have been before they met her, as a young child, a toddler, and finally a baby. She was deeply, dearly loved and will be forever missed.
