Obituary

Barbara Jo “Barb” Sanvig passed away peacefully on August 30, 2026, at age 82, surrounded by her family.

Born in Sherburn, Minnesota, to Ivan and Lucille Wingert, Barb grew up in Kensington and graduated from Kensington High School in 1961.

In 1960, Barb met the love of her life, Roger, when she joined him on the fender of an Allis-Chalmers tractor during a hayride. They married in 1962 during a Minnesota snowstorm and shared nearly 65 years together.

Barb and Roger moved to Salem, Oregon, in 1965 and later settled in Silverton. Barb managed a Salem Fabric land store for more than 25 years. In retirement, they enjoyed traveling in their fifth wheel, especially to Minnesota and Arizona. Barb loved sewing, crocheting, reading, bingo, and time with family.

Barb was preceded in death by her parents and beloved grandson, Grant Wilcox. She is survived by Roger; children Teresa Brickley (Ron), Nanette Wilcox (Gary), and Dwayne Sanvig (Kristi); three grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Roger and the family extend their deepest gratitude to Chuck Eder and his family. For 40 years, the Eders have been treasured neighbors, dear friends, and a constant source of kindness and support in Barb and Roger’s lives.

A Celebration of Barb’s Life will be held September 10 at 11 a.m. at Unger Funeral Chapel in Silverton.

From that first hayride began nearly 65 years of love, family, and memories.
