Barry Albert DeSantis was born in Silverton, Oregon, on October 4 ^th , 1955. He was the first-born son of Tony and Sharon DeSantis from the Silverton Hills. He was raised on the farm with his sisters Kathy Fleming (Mike), Penny Wilson (Frank), & Cindy Burk (Steve) and brother Tim. Together, they worked the land farming primarily strawberries and Christmas trees while also raising horses. Barry attended St. Paul's parochial school and Silverton High, graduating in1973. He was tall, attractive, and very charismatic. Barry had a magnetic pull on everyone he met with his bright eyes and friendly smile. Always the jokester, Barry could lighten any mood while providing a sense of comfort and security to those around him. He met his soul mate and life-long bride of 47 years, Sherry, at the age of 13. They had three children, Angela, TJ, and Danielle, whom they love more than life itself. He spearheaded one of the largest Christmas Tree farms in the U.S., brokering trees to almost every state. He won the award of Outstanding Young Farmer of Oregon in 1988 and traveled to nationals in Alabama. There, he met several other young farmers and decided to take his family on a RV trip around the U.S. to meet them and their families. Several other RV trips to the southwest and to Canada also served as geography and history lessons for his children, of which he placed great importance. Helping others who were less fortunate and maintaining a good work ethic were values he and Sherry instilled in their children and nieces and nephews. Barry suffered a major heart attack at the age of 39 and got a new lease on life. He ventured into a new career and started a drilling company with his son and cousin. Barry also maintained his life-long passion for logging and forest management by working with Department of Forestry for over 30 years. Barry and his son TJ won the Forest Practices Merit Award in 2012 for consistently outstanding forest management practices. Nothing made him prouder than the accomplishments of his children and their strong sense of family. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother in law Frank Wilson, and survived by his wife Sherry, children Angela Mack (Jeff), TJ (Darla), Danielle Galvez (Frank), grandchildren Rylan, Gage, Brianna, Kane, Kyle, Gunnar, Rhiannon, & RubyJo, many nieces, nephews, and in laws. Services will be held at 11:00 on Friday December 14 ^th at St. Paul's church in Silverton. Rosary will be Thursday December 13 ^th at 4:00.  In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Willamette Valley Hospice.
