Betty Lou Wellman passed away peacefully on December 30th, surrounded with the love of her family. She was 92 years old

Betty Lou was born in Salem on January 13, 1929 to Clyde & Florence Phillips. She grew up in Gervais and was the fourth of their five children

She was very active in high school, including being the May Day Queen. After high school she attended Mt. Angel College for two years. After college she worked for the Oregon State Police Department

She met her husband, Harold Wellman, at a dance and they were married in 1949. They were married for 71 years. They welcomed and raised 5 children

Betty Lou & Harold lived on the Wellman Family farm in Scotts Mills. She was a busy home maker when the kids were small. She spent the summers growing a large garden & canning for the family. Betty Lou was a great seamstress & made most of her own & the girl's clothes. She also was known for her homemade bread & cinnamon rolls. During that time Betty Lou was active in the PTA & Catholic Daughters

Betty Lou later worked for the OSU Extension Service, where she tested and tagged grass seed. She enjoyed being out in the field working with the local farmers

They sold the farm in 1991 and moved to Silverton, where Betty Lou continued to give to the community. She was an active member of the Silverton Hospital Auxiliary and also volunteered at the Oregon Garden for many years

She & Harold moved to the Mt. Angel Towers in 2013

She always enjoyed entertaining friends, neighbors & family. Holidays were a special occasion at the Wellman's & they always made sure new people in the community were welcome. Betty Lou was always the first one to help people with a casserole, a kind word or anything else to help them during a challenging time. Betty Lou also enjoyed gardening & was an avid reader

She will be greatly missed by her family & friends

She was proceeded in death by her husband, her parents & siblings. Betty Lou is survived by her children – Mike (Debi) Wellman of Silverton, Julie (Dale) Bystrom of Molalla, Lorri (Jim) Abel of Bend, Mary (Gary) Casqueiro of Keizer and Suzanne (Rick) Toman of Carlsbad, CA. She also enjoyed her 11 grandchildren & 10 great grandchildren

The family would like to say a special thank you to the staff at Intuitive Residential Care & Willamette Valley Hospice for the loving care they gave to Betty Lou

Funeral services will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mt. Angel on Friday January 7th at 11:00. Please join the family at a reception immediately following the service at St Mary's Community Center. Betty Lou will be laid to rest next to Harold in a private graveside service.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests remembrances in Betty Lou's honor be sent to Willamette Valley Hospice
