Daphne Nadine Olsen 1. Born 1 May 1930 in Sessor Illinois 2. The family moved to Bakersfield California in 1946 just a waze from Buck Owens. Nadine was around 8 at that time and moved to Oregon where she went school at Silverton High. She was a majorette following in the footsteps of her big sister. They lived on what is called the old Bowman place or old White place near Marquam and then move to Drift Creek Road which is of course in the Silverton District. Of course she met Jim who lived right on the edge of Marquam before moving away from Marquam. 3. She was married 25 December 1949 Christmas day to James Maynard Olsen. Buzz Stetson and Earlene Lance Stetson, her sister, stood up for them in Stevenson Washington. 4. Jim joined the Air Force and trained in Texas. Nadine joined him there and had a great story about walking on post carrying her suitcase and being given a ride by the post commander. She had no idea the guy who gave her a ride was Jim's big boss Jim was mortified when he found out. 5. Jim deployed to Korea during the Korean was caused modifications to be made to the F 86 fighter jet to help keep the flight systems working. Jim was an electrical tech and avionics specialist where he got his start with electricity. 6. They lived in Corvallis after the war where Nadine worked to help put Jim through college at Oregon State University as an electrical engineer. Jim used his GI bill to pay for college and complete his degree in electrical engineering. 7. Jim was the first applicant to apply and max the entry test at South California Edison as an electrical engineer. Nadine loved to tell that story. She would criticize Jim and brag on him all in the same conversation. They moved to Pasadena where they remained for some time. They move to Van Nuys and Sierra Madre as they both worked for Edison and moved up the ladder. One of their last moves was to Bishop California out in the hinter lands and was somewhat of a deal breaker with them and Edison. Edison said Jim needed hydroelectric experience as he had everything else. Not long after they retired. 8. Pam her daughter was born in 1960 and changed their lives as they both doted on her. 9. Nadine worked for Edison her entire career and between the two of them getting stock options they became the largest stockholders in Southern California Edison. 10. They retired early while on top of their game and moved back to Oregon. They bought a house in South Salem with a beautiful view on Valley View. They were comfortable in retirement and then came Ken Lay and Enron debacle and their moneys were only about 25 percent of what they once were. They may have been the lucky ones who had something. 11. Nadine became a painter and painted profusely for up until about three weeks ago as her health deteriorated rapidly. She had pictures in her room that she had painted while in Ponderosa unit of Marian Estates amazing pictures for a dementia patient in her 90s. Nadine had diabetes for years. Severe diabetes and she loves sweets. She would intentionally let her blood sugar run low so she could in her mind justify a huge Hershey bar to bring the blood sugar back up. More than once she attended church at Marquam and during the service would pull out a huge Hershey bar to recover from low blood sugar. For that reason she has a large Hershey bar with her in the casket. One of her wishes was that she wanted to be buried in white. She said she didn't wear white at her wedding and so she wanted to be buried in white. She is in a beautiful white dress and sweater with white slippers. She will be dressed in white on her journey meet Jim, Jack and Mildred Lance, Charlie, Bob and Earlene and Buzz Stetson. All buried here at Millers. She can snack on a Hershey bar on the trip.
