Obituary

Darin G. Colby, a loving son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend, has passed away.

Darin was born on December 19, 1969 in Silverton, Oregon.

He graduated from Oregon State University earning degrees in business and communications. While at OSU he served as president of his fraternity, Chi Phi. He continued his education at Portland State University obtaining two additional advanced degrees.

Darin made his career as a financial analyst, which he enjoyed, especially his job as a Finance Section Chief with the US Forest Service under the US Department of Agriculture. Darin had many different titles and roles over the years, all variations on Data Analyst and Financial Analyst.

More than anything, Darin valued family and friends and his connections with them. He so loved spending time with his mom, sister and nieces. He avoided social media and instead relied on personal connections. He kept in touch with a large number of people on a regular basis. He must've been on the phone nonstop, but he loved it!

Darin thoroughly enjoyed living in Portland, Oregon. He always said Portland offered a large array of activities all year round like OMSI, The Zoo, and Powell's City of Books. He had a passion for traveling. He traveled extensively within the United States and also went to several different countries. Darin's passion for live musicals made flying to New York his favorite travel destination. A self-proclaimed foodie, he loved trying new restaurants, but he was also extremely loyal to his favorite spots around Portland, where everyone knew him.

He was an avid Star Trek fan, and collected many figurines, a true "Trekkie."  He was always working on an idea… inventing a game, building a prototype on his 3D printer, or pursuing a certification. He loved singing, whether it was in a musical or at karaoke.

Darin was quite likable, very friendly, humorous, generous and made friends easily, which resulted in some great and lasting friendships. Darin will be greatly missed by so many.

Darin is survived by his mother, Grace, his sister, Jen, her fiancé Jeremy and his two nieces, Kora and Kylie along with numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, February 16, at 11 A.M. at St. Luke's Cemetery, 1679 N. Front Street, Woodburn, Oregon 97071.
