Daryl lee Schmaltz was born on February 13 ^th , 1968.  He was the youngest of Leonard and Leona Schmaltz's 10 children.  He spent his childhood on the family farm where he learned the meaning of honest work.  It was there he spent his days driving tractors, stating at age 6 and working in the fields with his family.

Daryl attended McNary High School where he met his high school sweetheart, Tammy.  After high school he worked as an automotive machinist and then moved into the large equipment field transporting and delivering equipment.  It was from there that he transitioned into the telecommunications industry where he started as a laborer, moving his way up to an operator until he  became the fleet manager.  It was in this position that he made a name for himself by repairing, rebuilding and modifying equipment becoming an excellent welder, fabricator and mechanic and was in this field until his death.

Daryl had many enjoyments in life including fishing, which he spent many of his final days doing, riding ATV's and watercraft, tinkering on projects, pulling pranks and camping.  His favorite time of year was the annual church out, where most times then not, he was asked to help outfit their own vehicles and RV for the trip.

Daryl's greatest passion was his family, but his favorite part was being a papa to his grandbabies.

Daryl is preceded in death by his parents Leonard and Leona Schmaltz, brother in law, Larry Karlin (KS) and brother in law, Robert Faler (Salem)

Daryl is survived by his wife of almost 35 years, Tammy, Daughter Megan Qualey (Colby), Son Derek Schmaultz (Emalie Barron, engaged) and his grandsons Mason Qualey and Colton Qualey. Sisters: Sharon Karlin (KS), Marylin Faker of Salem, Betty Simcoe (Paul) of Stayton, Sandi Apilado (Bill) of Salem.  Brothers: Larry Schmaltz of Keizer, Dave Schmaltz (Barb) of Newport, Ken Schmaltz (Joyce) of Salem, Steve Schmaltz (Cindy) of Salem and Brian Schmaltz of Salem.

Daryl also leaves behind 13 nieces, 9 nephews, 19 great nieces and 14 great nephew along with countless friends.
