Don Emmett
Lute
Oct 14, 1935 — Mar 15, 2021
Silverton
Don Emmett Lute, 85, died unexpectedly on March 15, 2021 after his heart, with which he had loved those around him so strongly, ultimately gave out. Don was born October 14, 1935 at home in Dallas, Oregon where he grew up. He was the third child of four, to William and Mamie Lute. Don is preceded in death by both his parents and his siblings, Mabel, David, and Barbara. Don served in the Coast Guard, on the Oregon Coast, during the Korean War. He was previously married to Wanda S. Patterson, which produced his first three sons, Scott (Kelle), Dan (Debby), and Tim (Kellie). When the boys were teenagers, Don met the love of his life, Ruth-Lynn. It was at this time that he got two bonus kids, David Norris and Laura (William) McCurry. Shortly after they married, Don and Ruth-Lynn were surprised with one more son, Christopher. Don and Ruth-Lynn spent the last 40+ years in their home on the outskirts of Silverton. Don enjoyed hunting with his sons, but his real passion was fishing for salmon and steelhead. He loved spending time with his fishing buddies and is even thought of as legendary with his fishing skills, in some circles. His homemade salmon fish sticks will be sorely missed. Don is survived by his beloved wife, Ruth-Lynn, his six kids and one adopted daughter Vicki, 18 grandkids, and 34 great-grandkids with two more on the way. He would love to be remembered for his strong faith and love for God. There will be a viewing in Silverton at Unger Funeral Chapel on Friday, March 19th from 10am to 2pm and a memorial service on Saturday, March 20th at 1 pm at Oak Park Church of God in Salem.
