Elizabeth "Betty"
Mae Brekke
Mar 5, 1935 — May 24, 2026
Camarillo
Elizabeth (Betty) Mae Brekke, 91, beloved wife and mother passed away peacefully at Camarillo Assist Living on May 24, 2026, in Camarillo, CA.
Betty was born on March 5, 1935 in Silverton, Oregon to parents Emidio and Bertha DeSantis. She graduated from Mt. Angel Academy in 1953.
Betty is survived by her children, Norman R. Brekke Jr. (Rick), David Brekke (Lynda), Julie Innocenti (Al), Thomas Brekke (Natalie), and Douglas Brekke (Marci); her 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Cecilia DeSantis Urbani, sister in-law Ruth DeSantis, brother in-law Jim Zauner, and brother in-law Craig Urbani.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman R. Brekke; siblings, Bud DeSantis, Mick DeSantis, Dorothy Fish and Elaine Zauner.
She and Norm were married for 46 years living in Oxnard, CA where they raised their five children. Upon retirement in 1994 they moved back to Silverton, OR and built their dream home on a 20-acre lot on a hill in Silverton overlooking the beautiful Willamette Valley. It was truly their "happy place" and was enjoyed by the whole family.
Betty was a devout Catholic and a woman of deep faith. She attended daily mass at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Oxnard, CA and then St Paul Catholic Church in Silverton, OR. She was very active with "Growing Through Loss" programs and bereavement support groups with both churches.
Betty loved her walks to the beach in Oxnard and hikes along Silver Creek Falls in Silverton. She was an athlete in HS playing girls' basketball and often played volleyball at church as an adult.
She was a kind and loving soul, always with a sweet smile on her face. Loved a good joke (especially if a little naughty).
A funeral mass is scheduled for 11AM on Friday, June 12th at St. Paul Catholic Church, 1410 Pine Street, Silverton. A viewing will take place at the church starting 30 minutes prior to the service. No rosary is scheduled. After the service we will proceed to St. Paul Cemetery for the burial. After the burial, a celebration of life luncheon will be held back at the St. Paul Church reception hall. All are welcome. Arrangements by Unger Funeral Chapel.
