Erling Ferdinand Chavez, age 87, loving father and grandfather died peacefully at his home on November 30 surrounded by his family.
Erling was born on February 19 in Iquitos Peru to Raul and Norberta Chavez. Erling arrived in Chicago Illinois in his early 20s and served in the United States Army shortly thereafter. He received his Bachelor's Degree in engineering and contributed to several high level government projects throughout his engineering career.
On June 3, 1962, Erling married the love of his life, Ivanilda and together they raised a son and a daughter Yuri and Sylvia. Erling was a devout Seventh day Adventist Christian and considered it his calling to share the teachings of Christ to all those he encountered. Erling also enjoyed soccer, doing various personal electrical projects, spending time with family and listening to music.
Erling is survived by his brother Wallace, sister Sara and her husband Walter and beloved friend Luisa. His children; son Yuri and his wife Maria, daughter Sylvia and her husband Vincent. His grandchildren Andrew, AnneMarie and her husband Stephen and Morgan Kyle. Erling is survived by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends in the United States, Peru and Brazil.
As an expression of sympathy we suggest a memorial contribution be sent to the Orchard House in Mount Angel Oregon; where Erling lived for the last year of his life. The facility and staff provided exceptional and loving care to our father and we just cannot thank them enough.
