Harold Bernard Dieker January 19, 1926 - May 3, 2020 Mt. Angel, Oregon – Harold B. Dieker, age 94, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 3rd, 2020. Harold was born in Fleming, Colorado on January 19, 1926 to Albert and Anna Dieker. He grew up in Colorado until 1938 when his family moved to Mt. Angel. Harold, his parents,7 siblings and all their possessions traveled 1400 miles over 4 days in a 1937 Chevy with a small trailer. His formal education ended after the 8th grade to work on the family farm. In December of 1947 he began working for the Benedictine Convent milking cows and running their farm. In his teen years he met Bernice Duda at his sister Dorothy's wedding, and soon fell in love. On May 12, 1948 Harold and Bernice were married. They celebrated 68 years of marriage shortly before her death in 2016. In 1955 Harold and Bernice and their family moved out to the Duda family farm on Hook Rd. Harold worked with Bernice's father, Aloyisious Duda and brother Leroy Duda for many years running the dairy and farming operation. In the 1970's, they sold the dairy cows but continued to raise cattle and a variety of crops. They also built many structures in the surrounding area. Leon Berning and nephew Tim Duda joined the building crew over time. In 1988 he retired from full time farming. He worked for the Eder Brothers and continued to assist the Duda's in the farming operation. He was a jack of all trades, able to operate all kinds of equipment and build or repair many things. He had a sharp, accurate mind all his life. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, traveling, playing cards, games and gambling a bit. Spending time with family and friends was a high priority. In 1990 when Bernice retired, they continued these activities. In 2003 they sold their farm and moved into town but kept very active. He was a life-long member of St. Mary's Parish and Knights of Columbus. He served on the Parish council, as a communion server and other roles. He served the community at Octoberfest and in many other ways.  He left a legacy of faith, love, service, and devotion to God. He was preceded in death by his wife Bernice, his son Gary, his parents, his brother Edwin, and his sisters, Helen, Dorothy and Francis. He is survived by his daughter Kathy (Gene) Luffman of Iowa Park, TX; son Richard (Suzanne) Dieker of Yakima, WA; his sisters, Sister Alberta Dieker, and Ruth Ann Boedigheimer; brothers Ralph Dieker, Leonard (Pat) Dieker, Paul (Claudie) Dieker, 7 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

The family wishes to express appreciation to family, friends, neighbors and all who helped and visited Dad over the past few years. Additional thanks to the staff of Silverton Hospital, Salem Hospital and Independence Health and Rehabilitation Center. A graveside service will be held for immediate family on May 8, 2020 in Mt.
