James Arvid Loftis (Jim) was born in Portland, Oregon on October 4, 1939, to Cristina Pearl Adams and James Pierce Loftis, and passed into the next life on October 26, 2022.

He was married to Loretta Roraback, with whom they conceived George and Shawn. After separating with Loretta, he married Mary Jean Johnson, to whom he lived happily till her death in Feb. 14, 2016. Mary Jean and Jim raised schnauzers (Silka, Luki, and Felix), along with several Percheron Horses. They loved gardening and every home was laced with unique florals, luscious veggies, and fruits that they canned or made delicious jams with. Jim was heralded for saving a stranger's life by administering CPR until emergency services arrived, whereby without his unrelenting effort the person would not have survived. Jim along with Steve Riley designed and oversaw the installation of the Veteran's Memorial in Silverton. After Mary Jean's passing, Jim garnered a close relationship with Jean Fischer, who he then married in December 2021.

Jim enjoyed sports in Highschool; he lettered in football, and wrestling. After graduating Mountain Home High School in 1958 he joined the Navy as a Seaman and served on the USS Lexington until 1962; when he was released from active service as a E5 Gunner's Mate 2 ^nd Class where he specialized as a Nuclear Weapons Technician. Jim received his Associates Degree from Chabot College in 1977. Jim worked at Lawrence Livermore Lab in California until he retired. He loved hunting, fishing, camping, and flirting with wildlife and women. He was a charmer till his last breath.

He is survived by his two sons George Douglas Loftis (Benicia, CA) and Shawn Joseph Loftis (Ft Lauderdale, FL), as well as his beloved schnauzer Missy. He was a brother to Janetta Goddard (St George Utah), Lucy Broussard (Louisiana), AnnaLee Bowcut (Preston, Idaho), and Willis Lofits (Boise, Idaho). He joins his other siblings in the hereafter; Rosa Lora Loftis, Geraldine Bateman, Laneece Loftis, Leland Loftis, twin boys (unnamed), George Loftis, Georgina Stephens, Lois Loftis, and JudaAnn Loftis. He has many friends and family members in the area and across the United States including his favorite niece Cristina Pearl Packham (Jacksonville, FL), and Ellen Strong (St George, UT); all who will remember him fondly and will miss him dearly.

The Celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Nov. 5 from 3-6pm, upstairs at Main Street Bistro in Silverton, Oregon.
