Obituary

JoAnne Marie Jessel passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family on Saturday, October 7, 2023.

She was born July 2, 1936 in Salem, Oregon to Hugh and Opal Evans. She grew up in Aurora and graduated from North Marion high school in 1954.

She met Joseph Jessel from Bruno, Saskatchewan at the Drive-in theater in Hubbard. They were married on June 12, 1954, and raised their family of five children in the Molalla area. JoAnne worked as a cook at Butte Creek elementary school for 23 years. The students loved her and her home cooking. For more than 30 years she decorated cakes and catered many weddings and events. Her pride and joy was her family. She loved hosting holidays which meant a house full of kids, grandkids and great-grandkids. She met every grand baby and great-grand baby in the hospital on the day they were born, attended every birthday party, and many school and sporting events. She also loved to travel. She traveled by motor home throughout most of the United States. She has also been to Canada, Mexico, Europe, and Asia. Later in life she enjoyed the deer and birds outside her window as well as flowers planted by her kids. She was kind, generous, and loved by everyone that knew her. She was a loyal friend with a close knit group of friends of more than 60 years.

She is survived by her children Jennie Sisco of Molalla, Joey Jessel Jr of Molalla, Jill (Mike) Walton of Lewiston, Idaho, and Jeff (Hope) Jessel of Aurora. 11 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, 1 great great-grandchild, her sister Barbara Haworth of Woodburn, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Joe, daughter Julie Reeves, great-granddaughter Alyssa Reeves, son-in-law Allen Sisco, and long time companions Phil Loprinzi and Herbert Hutchinson.

Donations can be made to the charity that was close to her heart, St Jude's Children's Hospital.
