It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of John Annen, who departed this world on June 22, 2026, just days shy of his 69th birthday. Born on June 25, 1957, in Portland OR, John graced this world with his presence, and unwavering dedication to his family, friends, and community.

John was the beloved son of Victor and Joanne Annen, who predeceased him, and the brother of Jeanne Annen (deceased), Jerome Annen, Julie Embree (Tom), Suzie Kloft (Tom), William Annen, and Mark Annen (Heather). Their shared childhood in Oregon was full of laughter, love, and experiences that John carried into adulthood, always cherishing the bonds of family.

On January 12, 1985, John married his love, Laura Annen. Together they navigated the joys and challenges of life, building a beautiful family over 42 years. They raised two wonderful sons, Dominic and Chase (Elia) who became the pride of his life. John reveled in the role of grandfather to Sophia, Oliver, and Emilia, finding immense joy and fulfillment in their laughter and love.

John's educational journey began at John F. Kennedy high school in Mt. Angel, OR, where he graduated in 1975. He pursued further studies at Eastern Oregon state University before dedicating his professional life to Annen Brothers Inc. For 40 years, John worked tirelessly as a farmer and farm manager, retiring in 2015. His commitment to land and community was unwavering and he served on numerous agricultural and community committees, including Oregon Hop Commission, and the Hop Growers of America. His contributions were recognized globally when he was awarded the prestigious "Order of the Hop" in 2005 in Lanzhou, China.

Beyond his professional achievements, John was a man of deep faith and a lifelong member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. He received all his sacraments at St. Mary's, and his faith was a guiding force throughout his life.

In his leisure time, John embraced life with enthusiasm and joy. He found happiness in simple pleasures of cooking, making sausage, golfing, taking road trips with Laura, and quality time with family and friends. John had an infectious spirit always making people smile with his booming voice, big hugs and kind heart. He was described as "kind, intelligent, and humble" an exemplary version of these qualities that left a mark on everyone he met.

John leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and community service. He is survived by his wife Laura, his sons Dominic and Chase, his daughter- in-law Elia, his three precious grandchildren, his mother-in-law Irene, as well as a large, loving extended family of nieces, nephews, in-laws, and countless friends who were like family.

A service to honor and celebrate John's life will be held on Thursday July 2, 2026 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, located at 575 East College St. Mt. Angel OR, 97362 Rosary will begin at 10:30 am and Mass will follow at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society or The Ronald McDonald house, organizations that were close to John's heart.

The Annen family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the medical staff at Salem Health and John's primary care provider for their compassionate care and support throughout his battle with cancer.

John's mission was always to make you smile, and he was deeply grateful for the kindness and care he received.

In the words of those who knew him best, "Johnny was kind, intelligent, and humble. Not just those things, but an exemplary version of them all". His spirit will forever brighten the lives that he touched.
