Obituary

Joseph Albert Diehl

In loving memory of Joe Diehl, born in Mt. Angel on April 8, 1940 and passed away at the age of 83 on Thursday, December 28, 2023. Joe is survived by his wife Marilynn Diehl, sister (Mary Dalke), 3 children (Ann McGovern, Robert Diehl, Karen Mattison), 8 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, 5 step great- grandchildren, and 3 step great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents (Albert and Irene), brothers (Virgil and Edwin), and sisters (Donna and Marlene).

He graduated from Saint Mary's Mt. Angel Prep in 1958 and enlisted in the National Guard. Joe and Marilynn were married on September 10, 1960 in Salem, OR. They have lived in the Salem-Keizer area for their 63 years of marriage.

Joe was very devoted to his family, loved to work in the yard, and was a generous host to all.

He started in the egg industry, working on the home farm as a teenager with his brother Virgil and completed his career at Willamette Egg Farms after working there for 38 years.

Joe was a generous man with his time at Saint Edward Catholic Church in Keizer, helping to facilitate mass and other liturgy services. He was especially involved with assisting Father Gary Zerr with funeral services.

At their previous home on Ridge Dr. in Keizer, they had a U-Cut Christmas tree farm with handmade fresh wreaths. They moved into their current home on Lake Labish in 2004. Joe loved watching the surrounding farmland activities and maintaining their beautiful yard. He enjoyed spending time with friends and family playing cards, hosting a party, or going golfing. Nothing made him happier than having his family around.

When September rolled around you could find Joe in his lederhosen celebrating at Mt. Angel's O'fest, dancing a polka and having a beer while singing along with the bands. It was always a treat to get to dance with him. Joe was instrumental in starting the Saint Edward berliner sandwich booth and was involved in running the booth for many years.

Services will be held Saturday, January 20, 2024 at 11:00am at Saint Edward Catholic Church - 5303 River Rd N, Keizer, OR. Donations may be made to Saint Edward Catholic Church in memory of Joe.

Joe was a blessing to all that had the chance to meet him and will be dearly missed. We love you!
