Joseph Thomas Kintz was born June 6, 1939 to Dan and Martha (Gaffke) Kintz.  As a newborn, Joe joined his mother and father, two brothers, Frank and Dan, and his sister Charlotte at their home on Fern Ridge Road near Stayton. Joe spent most of his childhood raised on their family farm on Abiqua Creek Road.  He attended Thomas School, Mt. Angel Grade School, and Butte Creek School. He attended High School on The Abbey in Mt. Angel.

Joe served in the National Guard. He married Patricia Ann Hassing on July 7, 1962. They were married 61 years and had five children; Laurie, Becky, Rosie, Annie, and Mark. Joe bought a dairy farm in Stayton, Oregon, at age 23. He and Pat lived there for 11 years. All five of their children were born there. In 1976, Joe and Pat bought a ranch and a general store in Silvies, Oregon. They lived there eight years before buying a home in Redmond and then buying part  of the Kahler Basin Ranch in Spray, Oregon in 1984. They sold the ranch and cattle in Spray  in 2018 and bought 20 acres in Alfalfa, Oregon and finally, their last home together on McVey Avenue near Redmond.

In 2020, Joe and Pat bought 40 acres of timbered property in Glenwood Washington. He loved the Glenwood property. He and the family later bought two more adjoining 20 acre pieces, one had a house on it and the other were grass fields. In 2022, Joe purchased a 1919 Model T from a neighbor in Glenwood and after a year of planning, all five of his adult children rode in the Model T in the Glenwood Rodeo parade Fathers Day weekend 2023, four weeks before he passed. The Model T and loud horn brought big smiles to many faces of parade watchers that day. Joe wanted the ranch and property in Glenwood to be a place where all his kids, grandkids, and great grandkids could enjoy being out in the country.

Joe was a man of few words and would do anything for those he loved. He was a planner, an expert on framing, ranching, logging, cattle, and horses, and an analytical businessman. He had an incredible work ethic as a dairy farmer, rancher and logger. He passed down his work ethic to his children. He provided well for his family.  Along with his brother Dan, Joe owned many draft horses they famously logged with. Joe was a wonderful storyteller but did not  embellish a story. He was a jokester, and just so much fun to be with.

Joe is survived by his wife Pat, their children Laurie, Becky, Rosie, Annie, and Mark, their grandchildren Jolene, Martha, Chad, Joseph, Jordon, Anthony, Julie, Mia, and great grandchildren Rocket, Jakobe, Prince, Logan, Wyman Bae, his sister Charlotte, and many other relatives and friends.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents Dan and Martha, brothers Frank and Dan, sister-in-law Elenor, niece Leona, and nephew Greg.

Pat and the family would like to thank Nurse Julie B. and Hospice Partners in Care of Central Oregon for their exceptional care of Joe during the last few weeks of his life.

Funeral services will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Thursday, August 3. The rosary will begin at 10:30 am and the funeral mass at 11:00 am.
