Joseph C Schmidt passed away December 16 ^th in Mt. Angel at the age of 92. He was born April 30, 1926 to Frank and Mary Schmidt of Humphrey, Nebraska. He moved to Oregon in 1941. He was a very kind man and everyone he met, young and old, was left with a smile and funny quip. He was a butcher by trade and he was very involved in his church community. He was a member of Oktoberfest in the beginning years and was a member for 15 years, following that he was a custodian for the Oktoberfest biergarten. Joe was married to Bettie Jean Moritz in 1950 and had 6 children all raised in Mt. Angel. Bettie passed away in 1985. He is survived by his wife Barbara (Etzel) Hammer of 30 years; His sister, MaryAnn Raymond (Bob), Brother-in-law, Loren Free, Sons Robert (Patty), Leonard (Liz), Ron (Cindy) and Patrick Schmidt; daughters, Karen Ryan (Carl) and Susan (Gene) Bielemeier. He is also survived by Doug (Maureen), Ron (Chris), Julie and Steve (Molly) Hammer. Joe is also lovingly remembered by his 24 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild and many nieces and nephews.

The visitation will be held at Unger Funeral Chapel, 190 Railroad Avenue, Mt. Angel, Oregon from 9am to 5pm Thursday, December 20 ^th .

There will be a Rosary held at St. Mary's Catholic Church at 7pm on Thursday December 20 ^th .

The funeral services will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church at 10 am on Friday, December 21 ^st in Mt. Angel, Oregon.
