June Lila Ledgerwood (Applegate)

May 12, 1927 – October 13, 2022

With a heavy but joyous heart, our family would like to share that June Ledgerwood celebrated her peaceful and final journey in this life to join Jesus, her beloved husband, and daughters on October 13, 2022.

June was born May 12, 1927, to Lyle & Eleanor Applegate of Rawlins, Wyoming. June was raised by her mother and stepfather, Roy Bird, and were joined by 3 younger siblings.

One fine day, Roy popped in for a bite to eat on his travels and after he took one look at his waitress, June, he was smitten from the start.  After a small courtship, June married Roy D. Ledgerwood June 4, 1949, in McMinnville, Oregon. In 1951, they were blessed with their first child, Doug.  Next was followed by Virginia (1952), Jenette (1954), and Betty Lou (1955).  After a bit of bouncing around, the Ledgerwood family settled in Silverton in 1963 where they established themselves within the Central Howell community. Amazingly, June and Roy lived in the same farmhouse on Desart Road for 43 years and cultivated great memories there. June spent countless hours and took great pride in maintaining the property, growing her garden, and planting flowers. In a typical and stubborn June attitude, there wasn't much that she couldn't do.

June had an abundance of interests in her life; One of her main passions was spending her free time bowling at the Silver Creek Lanes as not only a player, but their secretary for many years.  As mentioned, another one of her pride and joys was working in her garden and canning all the food that she spent the year harvesting.  While it was much of a necessity to survive through winters in the early years, to keep and maintain her vegetable garden, she continued this hobby for a very long time.  It was such a wonderful bonding time between her and her grandchildren. It truly was an amazing skill and life experience to watch the 'fruits of her labor' come to fruition. While June had many talents, but one that stands out the most is that she had an uncanny knack for whipping up an amazing meal with only just a few items in the fridge.   Another fond memory in past times was when we would sit outside on the porch at dusk, drinking iced tea, snapping green beans, and talking about life.  It was such a peaceful and great bonding time for all of us.  June also had an uncanny knack for making friends wherever she went.   There was never a time that June wouldn't venture into town and spend hours talking to everyone she knew.

June and Roy were married for 53 years.  While Roy was gone weeks at a time with his long-hall trucking, their love never wavered or failed.  As he was away for most of the time, this did leave June in charge of owning most all the household duties and raising their 4 children.  She spent countless hours demonstrating what it meant to be self-sufficient and do just what need to get done.  Sadly, after a long battle with Alzheimer's, her husband Roy passed away in 2002.  Never once did June not stay by his side and always made sure to take amazing care for him. It wasn't until after Roy's passing, that June moved out of the farmhouse and into an apartment in town, just because it was just too much house for herself. June resided in the Silvertowne Apartments for the remaining of her years making numerous friends and becoming involved in all the activities. In her usual fashion, she made many friends very quickly there and was always ready to lend a helping hand. It would be safe to say that you really couldn't imagine a better friend in a person, than June Ledgerwood.

June is preceded in death by her parents, husband Roy, sisters Edith and Shirlie, brother Roy, and daughters Jenette and Virginia.

June is survived by her son Douglas (Jeri) Ledgerwood, Betty (Tom) Ruiz, brother Donald (Linda) Bird, 8 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and 7 great great grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, October 29 ^th at Unger Funeral Chapel at 11:00am. ( 229 Mill St/ Silverton, OR .  There will be a potluck will be held after the service at the common room at the Silvertowne II apartment complex.
