Kenneth Edward Bauer was born on April 21 ,1949, and passed away peacefully on October 1, 2023. Ken, alongside his wife Pat, made Silverton, Oregon their home for the last 30 years. His childhood was spent in North Hollywood, CA, where he was raised by his parents Otto Michael Bauer and Hazel Lorraine Fortner. He completed his education at North Hollywood High School, graduating in 1967.

In November 1968, Ken volunteered for the United States Army. Serving as a Sergeant, he managed a MARS station in Soc Trang, South Vietnam. His dedicated service enabled countless soldiers to communicate with their families back home, collaborating closely with USA-based HAM operators. After honorably completing two tours, he returned stateside in 1971. For his service, Ken was bestowed with the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal.

Professionally, Ken built a reputation as a well-respected foreman at Peter Pan Bakery in North Hollywood throughout the 1970s and 1980s. He later took on a role for the United States Postal Service as a letter carrier in Van Nuys, CA. Following a move to Oregon, he transferred to the Woodburn Post Office, retiring in 2007. His service was recognized with multiple awards, including the Special Achievement Award for Exceptional Performance, the Expert Driver's Award for 15 years of Exceptional Driving Performance, and the Twenty-Year Service Award in honor of his dedication to the U.S Government.

Beyond his professional life, Ken enjoyed spending time with family, camping, dogs, woodworking, and baking. He was especially known for his homemade French bread and pizza. He enjoyed creating and making wood-working projects for Cub Scouts and family Christmas ornaments. Ken was a kind and selfless man, beloved by all who knew him, and will be deeply missed.

He leaves behind his devoted wife of 33 years, Pat, their son Matt, his sister Janet Smith as well as several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service in honor of Ken will be held at Willamette National Cemetery on Friday, November 3, at 1pm. In lieu of flowers , the family kindly requests donations be made to the American Red Cross.
