Obituary

Lawrence J Hall went to be with his Lord Wednesday, April 13, 2022, at the age of 86.  After several months of declining health, Larry died peacefully at home with his youngest son Timothy at his side.

Larry as he was known by his friends was born in Portland Oregon June 11, 1935. The younger of two sons he grew up in Hillsboro Oregon. He was encouraged to pursue higher education by his parents and did so attending for various periods Willamette University, UC Berkeley, Chapman University in Orange Ca, and later Law School at Lewis and Clark in Portland.  Between his undergrad and law school he volunteered for the Army from 1958 to 1961. His primary assignment was as a helicopter mechanic stationed in Germany. During the military, Larry became interested in rock and mountain climbing and joined a local European club climbing all over central Europe. This love of the outdoors led to the meeting of his eventual bride Phyllis. They had met on an organized climb of South Sister Mountain in Central Oregon .  After getting married in December of 1962 Larry finished his law school while the young couple lived with his father-in-law Mike Walters.  In 1965 Larry moved to Silverton and started his law practice in partnership with Bill Nokes just a few doors down from the Ames building. Larry went on to work for the state Attorney General's office, SAIF corporation, the public defender's office, and eventually for himself out of his own house.  Larry became actively involved in his church for many years at Silverton Friends, later Labish Community, and finally at Salem Evangelical Church.  He had an intense interest in apologetics relating to the creation story.  As a result, he took his grandkids to lectures at the Design Science Association meetings in Portland.  As well he produced booklets on the subject of Evolution and the Bible.

Larry was preceded in death by his brother Kenneth Lynn Hall and his wife Phyllis Marie Hall.  He is survived by his sons David Arlo (Kimberlee), Loren Thomas (Michele), and Timothy Andrew (Jenny Ruth) Hall; grandchildren Jessie Nicole Hall, Erika Yvette Hall, Danae Taylor Hall, Josiah David Hall, Caleb Thomas Hall, Jonathan Lawrence Hall, Micah Andrew Hall, Anna Joy Hall, Seth Michael Hall, and Brian Casey Hall.
