It is with great sadness that the family of Lloyd Leslie Severson announce his passing on April 12, 2023. He will be dearly missed. Lloyd was born on September 20, 1931 in Williston, ND to Clarence and Hilda Severson. Lloyd was the second oldest of six boys and grew up on their dairy farm along the Missouri River.

Lloyd joined the Army when he was 17 years old. He served as a heavy equipment operator as part of the Engineering Division in the Korean War. In his four-year enlistment he achieved the rank of Sergeant First Class. The Army asked him to stay but Lloyd had other plans. He returned to Williston and married his sweetheart Charlotte Vizina on New Year's Eve 1952.

After the War he worked as a crane operator for his father-in-law's construction company. A tragic accident occurred while lifting an above ground fuel tank. Lloyd valiantly tried to move the crane out of the way, and nearly did, but he lost his left arm and leg when this mishap occurred on November 17, 1953.

North Dakota was too cold and slippery for a man in his condition, so Charlotte and Lloyd headed west to live in Arizona. Along their way they visited Lloyd's Aunt in Silverton, Oregon. They fell in love with the area and purchased a home on Hazelgreen Road where they both lived for the rest of their lives. Lloyd and Charlotte had two daughters, Charlene and Diane. They had a small farm and raised beef cattle, chickens, pigs and maintained a large vegetable garden. It was a family affair. Lloyd also enjoyed coaching Diane's fast-pitch team and it was a highlight in his life when they took the State Championship.

Lloyd held several jobs in Oregon, never letting his handicap get in the way. He worked at Marion County Shops when he accepted an offer to work in Portland for Air Mac tools. He later moved to Halton Tractor where he worked for over 20 years as the Parts and Service Manager retiring at 60 years of age.

While working at Halton Tractor a colleague convinced him to take up golf. They would go hit balls during lunch and after work. Despite his handicap the right hander would swing left-handed and grew to love the game of golf. He was known as The Ironman at the Evergreen Golf Club in Mt. Angel. The highlight of his hobby was teaching his grandchildren the game of golf and acing Hole No. 4 at Evergreen.

Lloyd was also a member of the Silverton Elks and went through the Chairs becoming the Exalted Ruler in 1987-88. He enjoyed many years of friendship and service through his involvement at the Elks.

After Lloyd retired, they finally made it to Arizona and spent 13 wonderful years as snowbirds making many new friends and enjoying all the activities in their retirement community.

After the loss of Charlotte and the aging process took hold, Lloyd was determined to stay in his home. With the help of family, two loving caretakers, Lenora Johnson and Vera Covarrubias along with assistance from long time neighbors Michael and Sharon Roy and family friend Jill Zollner, Lloyd was able to live out his days in his home.

Lloyd was known for his will power, determination, quick wit and generosity. He put his family first and foremost in whatever he did. He treasured his Norwegian heritage and throughout his life instilled and enjoyed many Norwegian traditions with his family. He kept up on national and current events and was an avid sports fan, especially of his beloved Oregon Ducks. He was a force to be reckoned with. His memory was amazing, and he never lost his keen mind. He was an inspiration for everyone that was lucky enough to know him.

Lloyd will be remembered and missed by many extended and immediate family members. His two daughters, Charlene Schuh, Diane Pease (Loren), five Grandchildren, Jerred Schuh (Melody), Lindsay Schuh, Laura Pease Walters (Chris), Brian Pease (Nicole), Jordan Pease (Devan) and four Great Grandchildren, Wyatt and Hudson Walters and Madilyn and Hailey Pease.

Lloyd's Memorial Service will be Saturday April 29, 2023, at 2 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 500 N. Second Street, Silverton, preceded by Viewing/Visitation from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at Unger Funeral Chapel. A Celebration of Life will follow at Silverton Elks Lodge, 300 High Street following the memorial service.
