Marilyn Hohn passed away, Easter Sunday, April 20, 2025, in Salem, Oregon. Marilyn was found deceased in her beautiful new home at the Boone Ridge Senior Living Community, when her daughter arrived to pick her up for Easter mass and dinner. She was in the loving company of her sweet, orange, tabby cat, Callie, at the time she passed.

Marilyn was born Feb. 12, 1939, in Detroit, Michigan to Edith and Theodore Pallister. The day she came home from the hospital, it was snowing so hard that her father had to get out of the car several times to wipe snow away from the windshield. Marilyn spoke often about how hot and humid it was in Detroit and how excited she was to relocate with her family to Burbank, California when she was four years old. Marilyn attended Sir Robert Bellarmine Catholic School in her elementary years; she graduated from Burbank High School, which was just across the street from her home; and, she later graduated with an Associate's Degree from Glendale College.

Marilyn met her husband of 59 years, Hank, at a Catholic young adults' dance. They courted and married five years later. Marilyn worked as an assistant to five engineers at the Bendix Corporation, Aviation Division in Burbank, before relocating again to Silverton, Oregon in 1967 with Hank; her parents and her brother's family joined shortly thereafter. Marilyn adored her brother and sister-in-law and her nephews and niece, Teddy, Timmy, Tommy, Terry and Debbie, and she often spent her time baby-sitting them and watching them grow up. Marilyn dreamed of having a family of her own and God granted her that wish, with the birth of her first child, Henry, who joined the family in 1968. Daughter Jeanine was born six years later in 1974.

Marilyn made a beautiful home for her family in the house that Hank built and finished in 1972. She was an accomplished pianist. She loved classical music, the ballet, and the fine arts. If Marilyn wasn't attending an event, she was watching one on TV, or listening to her kitchen radio to write down the names of her favorite classical pieces of music when they came on the air. She lovingly supported her children throughout their childhood years; specifically, she and Hank attended each and every recital, concert and music festival the children participated in. After Henry and Jeanine grew up, Marilyn went back to work as a legal assistant and later an executive assistant until she retired from Chemeketa Community College as the registrar's executive assistant.

Although Marilyn's parents and brother passed away when she was younger, she lovingly cared for her Aunt Mary Palaghe, when Mary moved to Oregon from New York. Marilyn helped Mary walk the path of dementia until her passing. After that, she was a loving grandmother to Henry's children, whom she treasured without measure.

Marilyn was a committed Catholic, and she had an ongoing conversation with Jesus, whom she trusted in all matters. He was ever-present in her mind and heart, and He was a part of her every action. Marilyn also loved the Virgin Mary, whom she found comfort with, during her regular recitation of the Rosary. Marilyn was an active member of St. Paul's Catholic Church in Silverton, where she raised her children, attended bible study, was a member of the liturgy commission, chaired the Turkey Dinner serving room for many years, and participated in food drives, car washes, and other events. She was a counselor for her children and their friends, when they attended Canyon View Day Camp; she worked in the Oktoberfest booth alongside Hank to fundraise for the Knights of Columbus; and she was a eucharistic minister.

Marilyn worked hard to be an example of Jesus's love to all whom she met. Even when she moved from her home in Silverton to the retirement community, in Salem, she often asked what her purpose was. She found that purpose in helping others transition into their new living arrangements, and through her readings for the community prayer group on Holy Days of Obligation. Her last action for the prayer group was to read part of the Passion of the Christ. When asked to read, she told the organizer with great sincerity that, "She would read the passage with such seriousness and deep feeling, that listeners would surely understand the weight that Jesus bared on behalf of the world."

Marilyn is survived by her loving son Henry Hohn III (wife Jennifer, and grandchildren Margaret, Henry IV, Samuel, and Andrew), and devoted daughter Jeanine Hohn (partner Michael). She is also survived by her sister, Diane Pallister and Diane's children and grandchildren. Marilyn is most certainly overjoyed to be reunited with her husband in heaven, Hank Hohn.

Services are scheduled for Thursday, May 8, 2025; a Rosary will be said for Marilyn at 10:30 a.m. and a Funeral Celebration Mass will be held at 11 a.m., both at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Silverton. Marilyn will be interred at Calvary Cemetery in Mt. Angel, and a reception will follow back at the church.
