Martha Ruth
Jaeger
Jul 12, 1936 — Nov 26, 2023
Mount Angel
Martha Ruth Jaeger was called to heaven on Sunday, November 26th, 2023.
She offered her last breath just as her children finished praying with her The Divine Mercy, her favorite prayer. Ruth was a prayer warrior, faithfully investing hours a day to this devotion. In her last years she felt her life's purpose was simply to pray for her family and the world. She
honored this practice with all her will.
Born on July 12, 1936, in Sterling, Colorado, to Joseph and Violet Wagner, Ruth grew up in Mt Angel, Oregon, with her sisters, Patricia and Mary, and their younger brother Jay.
Ruth attended high school at Mt Angel Academy and met Donavon through mutual friends.
After high school she moved to Portland to work as a bookkeeper, and when Don returned home from military service they married, on September 1, 1956. The couple settled in Salem, where they raised six children.
A stay-at-home mom during the children's early years, Ruth joined Pioneer Trust Bank in 1978, retiring as operations manager of the Medical Center Branch in 1990.
Once the children were raised, Ruth and Don moved to Aurora, Oregon, for 7 years, then to Keizer, Oregon, where they resided until Don's death in 2021. They were married for 64 years.
Following Don's passing, Ruth moved back to Mt Angel, where she lived out her final years.
Ruth is survived by her sisters, Patricia Gorman and Mary Provost, her six children: Timothy (Mona) Jaeger, Cynthia Jaeger (Gene Koon), Michael (Katie) Jaeger, Thomas (Linda) Jaeger, Bruce (Nicky) Jaeger, and Linnea (John) Elyard-Jaeger, along with 21 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren.
Her family was the love of Ruth's life. She greatly enjoyed her final months mutually shared with her sisters, playing pinochle and sipping a glass of wine together. She treasured playing cards and building jigsaw puzzles with her children, their spouses, and her many grandchildren. Along with her deep faith, this simple time together meant the world to Ruth.
Funeral services will be Friday, December 22, at St. Mary Church in Mt. Angel, with Rosary recitation at 10:15 and funeral mass at 11:00. Reception follows at St. Mary Church Hall.
