Mildred Margaret
Schmidt
Aug 25, 1929 — Nov 2, 2025
Mildred Margaret Schmidt (Bailey) passed into the presence of God on November 2, 2025. She was born in Hebo, Oregon on August 25, 1929, in the home of her parents, Omer and Olive Bailey. Her father was a pastor in the Assemblies of God denomination. During her father's time as a pastor, mom lived in Hebo, Oregon; Mossy Rock, Washington; Friend, Oregon and then her middle school and high school years in Silverton, Oregon.
Mom graduated from Silverton High School in 1947 and went to work at the Silverton Hospital and then as an office worker.
Some of her jobs required her to ride the bus from Silverton, Oregon and Brooks, Oregon to Salem for jobs at the Smart Shop and Lipmans department store.
She met her future husband, Ronald Schmidt, at North Howell Assembly of God church and after a short courtship, they were married on February 10, 1950. Ronald was a World War II veteran, a farmer and a carpenter. They bought 80 acres of land east of Salem and started their family and their farm. Dad built a home on the acreage in 1950. Their first child was Connie (Jaeger) of Dallas, Oregon followed by their second child Douglas of Salem Oregon and then their third child Cheryl (Russell) of Santa Maria, California.
While the children were growing, mom was a homemaker, a field worker for neighboring farmers and the field manager for berries they grew on their property. When the children were older, mom worked for the Marion County Elections Department. During their married life, mom and dad would go on short term missions' trips through their church. They worked on construction projects in Africa, Spain, Europe, Korea, Samoa and several other countries and continents. These ministry trips created great memories for mom, and she would tell stories of their work and travel to anyone who would listen.
After 64 plus years of marriage, Mom was preceded in death by her husband Ronald in 2014, her parents and her sisters Ruth and Joyce. She is survived by her children, Connie (Fred) Jaeger, Douglas Schmidt, Cheryl {Loren) Russell and her sister Catherine Dougherty. She is also survived by her 4 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
Mom lived her life well and she will be missed.
Mildred's family wants to thank all her caregivers at the Springs at Willowcreek Assisted Living Facility in Salem. You cared for her as if she was your mom. You touched her heart, and you touched our hearts. Thank you.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, December 6 at 1pm at Peoples Church, 4500 Lancaster Dr. NE Salem Oregon 97305. Arrangements with Unger Funeral Chapel, Silverton.
