Obituary

Percy John Gould, 86, passed away at his home in Silverton, Oregon, on August 15, 2022.

Percy was born in Roosevelt, Minnesota.  As a young man, he enlisted in the United States Army and served active and reserve duty totaling seven years between 1957 and 1964.  Percy's family moved west to Oregon while he was stationed in Oklahoma, and Percy moved to join his family in 1959 when he left active duty.  He met Barbara (Olson) in July 1959, and the two were engaged only three months later in October.  They married at the Silverton First Baptist Church on June 12, 1960.

For more than 42 years, Percy worked at the Crown Zellerbach Paper Mill in West Linn (which later became Simpson Paper Mill and West Linn Paper Mill).  In his "spare" time, he would build and sell houses in the Marquam and Silverton areas and cut and chop wood both to use and to sell.  Percy loved to hunt, fish, camp, and target practice.  And no one loved a good barbecue like Percy.  He would plan the barbecues for upcoming family reunions nearly one year in advance!

Percy was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara; oldest son, Ron; sister Joyce Kretzschmar, and brothers Norman and David Gould.  He is survived by his daughters Donna Gould and Debra Osborne; son Russell Gould; four granddaughters, Ashley Arnold, Courtney Gould, Allison Osborne, and Carly Gould; sister, Louise Bosch; and brother, Robert Gould.  His brother-in-law, Georg Kretzschmar, was also like a brother to Percy and visited and encouraged Percy to the very end.

Percy understood the gift of family, and he lifted his family up in prayer every single day
