Richard "Rick"
Anthony Schiedler
Aug 18, 1956 — Jun 5, 2024
Mt. Angel
MT ANGEL- Rick was born August 18, 1956, in Silverton, Oregon, to Regina (Traeger) and Edward Schiedler. He grew up on a dairy farm between Mt Angel and Silverton with his seven siblings. He graduated from Kennedy High School in 1975, then attended Central Oregon Community College where he earned an Associates Degree in Forestry. He married his high school sweetheart Cindy Seiler on June 25, 1977. They started their lives together in Sweet Home where Rick worked in forestry for Barringer and Associates for 6 years. They moved back home to the Mt Angel area in 1983, where he began his career with PGE as a meter reader. He later became a surveyor and estimator and retired from PGE in 2021 after 38 years. Rick worked hard, but always found time to volunteer for his church and community. He was a devout Catholic, serving as a lector for 48 years and as a member of the Mt Angel Knights of Columbus, where he held several offices, including Grand Knight. Rick served his community in many civic roles including Marion County Republican Precinct Person and Mayor of Mt Angel, and on the Mt Angel Planning Commission, Budget Committee, and City Council. He would drop anything to assist family, friends, or even a stranger in need of help. Rick's favorite places to be were in nature or on the sidelines of his children, then grandchildren's sporting events. He never missed an opportunity to work or play alongside his children, grandchildren or many nieces or nephews. At family gatherings, you would always find him holding a baby. He enjoyed gardening, camping, fishing, hunting, and hiking, anywhere he could enjoy the beauty of God's creation.
Rick is survived by his wife Cindy of 47 years, mother Regina of Mt Angel, daughters Sara (Peter) Beyer of Mt Angel, Jessica Saltalamachia of Keizer, Allison (Anthony) Mayer of Mt Angel, grandchildren Emma, Abigail, and Logan Beyer, Lily and Dylan Saltalamachia, Grace, Anna, and Joseph Mayer; siblings Barb Horner, Beth (Joe) Pelletier, Mike (Paula), Tom (Lori), Jack, Duane (Julie), David, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
A rosary will be held 7:00 Tuesday, June 11 with funeral mass 11:00 Wednesday, June 12, both at St Mary Catholic Church in Mt Angel. Burial at Calvary Cemetery and luncheon to follow at St Mary's. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to St Mary Catholic Church in Mt Angel, or Mt Angel Knights of Columbus. Arrangements by Unger Funeral Chapel.
