Richard "Dick"
Moles
Aug 11, 1937 — Sep 29, 2023
Richard "Dick" L. Moles passed away on September 29, 2023, surrounded by his family. He was born on August 11, 1937, in Phelps, Missouri to Ray and Ella Moles and was one of five boys, Raymond, Rylan, Richard, Rex, and Randy. The family moved to Scotts Mills in 1943.
At a young age, Richard developed a passion for music and began playing the piano and accordion in first grade. He met his soulmate, Mary Jo Slayton, at a Silverton High School dance and they married in 1957. They were blessed with a 66-year-long marriage filled with love and happiness.
Over the years, Richard worked for various companies like Payless Drug, Drug King, Western Auto, and Moles Maytag, before opening his own store, Dick's Appliances Center in 1979. However, his greatest joy in life was spending time with his grandchildren. Richard loved taking them boating and camping on the Island at Detroit Lake.
Music continued to be an essential part of Richard's life, and he played the accordion and piano at multiple events such as Octoberfest, First Friday, School Fundraisers, and nursing homes with his beloved dog, Sweetheart. Richard donated his tips to Wednesday night dinners at First Christian Church, Mural Society, and school programs.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents Ray D. Moles and Ella Moles, two brothers Raymond and Rylan Moles, and his grandson, Micheal Moles. He is survived by his wife Mary Jo Moles, sons Richard L. Moles Jr., and Roger Moles, and daughter Rochelle (Moles) Kuenzi, 14 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Richard's life will be held on February 3, 2024, at The Farm on Golden Hill (11506 Kaufman Rd NE, Silverton, OR 97381) from 2:00-6:00pm. This open house style event will include appetizers, refreshments, and a time to share memories of Richard from 3:00-4:00pm. All friends and family are invited to attend.
