Rita Mary Hudak, 90, passed away in Portland on October 8, 2018.
She was born on August 9, 1928 to Matt and Martha (Wanzek) Schultz in Windsor, North Dakota. Rita was one of nine children. Her family left North Dakota when she was a young girl, settling in the green Willamette Valley of Oregon. The Schultz Family eventually bought and ran a farm in Mt.Angel, Oregon for many years.
In August
of 1951 she married Theodore Michael Hudak in Chehalis, WA. They had 2 sons, James and Donald. Rita was a loving mother and devoted Catholic. She performed considerable volunteer work for the priests and parishioners of St. Pius X Parish in Portland.
Rita always maintained her love of gardening and growing of fruits and vegetables. She was ahead of her time as a health food pioneer. She prepared many of her recipes from scratch, churned her own butter, and created countless "healthy" fruit and vegetable drinks. She loved the casinos, especially the freebies and many of the dining discounts.
Throughout her life, Rita was known for her wry sense of humor. She could make people laugh with seemingly effortless one-liners that family members still remember to this day.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore who passed in July, 2011.
Visitation will be at 9:30am, Wednesday, October 10, 2018, with Rosary at 10:30am and mass at 11am, all to take place at St. Mary Catholic Church in Mt.
Angel, Oregon.
