Robert Clement Albrich Sr., lovingly known as Bob (and "Grandpa Prune" to his grandchildren), passed away peacefully on May 14, 2026, at the age of 94. Born on November 30, 1931, to Dr. Joseph Edward Albrich and Louise Clemence LeDoux-Albrich, he was the fifth of eight children. Bob lived a life marked by devotion to family, service to his country, friendship, generosity, and a deep love of fly fishing and the game of golf.
Bob attended Sacred Heart and Salem High School before continuing his education at the University of Oregon and Gonzaga University. During the Korean conflict, he proudly served his country in the United States Coast Guard, joining in 1951. His years of military service reflected the quiet strength, discipline, and sense of duty that would characterize his entire life.
In 1957, Bob began a long and dedicated career with the United States Postal Service, and soon after, in 1959, he married the love of his life, Derine Rutherford, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. They raised their four children in the Fairmont Hills area of Salem, Oregon. After retirement, Bob and Derine moved to Silverton, Oregon, where they enjoyed many years on their property along the Abiqua Creek. He especially enjoyed hot summer days harvesting his blueberries and many varieties of apples, and mowing the grass under his beautiful oak trees with his treasured John Deere.
Outside of work, Bob was most at home on the golf course. A talented golfer, he won numerous local tournaments over the years, but the story he loved to tell most was the unforgettable time he played nine different golf courses in a single day — a feat that perfectly captured his enthusiasm, endurance, and joy for the game. Golf was more than a pastime to Bob; it was a source of friendship, laughter, and treasured memories, such as the time he played a few holes of golf with his idol, Sam Snead. Another very special memory was the time he golfed with Rick Adelman, coach of the Portland Trail Blazers.
Above all else, Bob was a loving and generous husband, father and grandfather. His family was the center of his life, and he took immense pride in each of them. He will be remembered for his steady presence, kind heart, quick wit, and the countless ways he quietly cared for those he loved. His guidance, encouragement, and unconditional love will remain with his family always.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. May his memory bring comfort to those who loved him and inspiration to those who follow in his footsteps.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Joseph Edward Albrich and Louise Clemence LeDoux-Albrich; his brothers, Joseph, Alan, and Donald; sisters, Miriam and Barbara. Bob is survived by his children, Lisa (Mike) Adams, Amy Albrich, Robert Jr. (Laurie) Albrich, and Tony (Venus) Albrich; grandchildren, Jacob and Samuel Anderson, Dr. Jordan Albrich (Jessica) , Brenna Bearham (Blake), James Albrich, and Marius and Ulysses Albrich; great-grandson, Theodore Albrich; and sisters, Anita Ashbeck and Helen Van Handel in addition to many nieces and nephews.

Bob's family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to Mount Angel Towers, nurse Danielle of Solterra Hospice, and especially Josephine and David of New Horizon Residence, who provided immense comfort and support and cared for our father like family during his last few weeks.

Finally, a special thanks to Mike Hassler of Mount Angel for somehow keeping Bob's beloved John Deere mower functional after years of running over every object in sight! You were a great friend to him.

A private family gathering will be held, and Robert and Derine will be laid to rest together at Willamette National Cemetery.
