Robert "Bob" Laurel Thomas, 77, went home to Jesus on Thursday, November 21, 2019 at his home in Silverton , Oregon . Bob was born March 16,1942 , in Silverton , Oregon to Donald and Irene Thomas.

Bob was reared with his 6 siblings in Silverton and northern California . His youth was filled with mischievous antics with his brother and friends.

In 1963, Bob enlisted in the United States Navy and served as a Seabee for four years, including a tour in Vietnam .

Bob met his wife, Linda (Stayton), after being introduced by her brother, Steven, who was a fellow Seabee. They were married on March 26, 1968 , and celebrated their 51 anniversary this year.

Bob enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, woodworking, and camping. After his health forced him into an early retirement, Bob joined Linda in crafting. He was known for his talent in wood crafts, particularly his bird houses. He spent many volunteer hours at his church, Christ Community Church , especially preparing and maintaining their community garden. Bob also served as a volunteer fireman for the Silverton Fire Department for 15 years and was a member of the ELKS.

Bob is preceded in death by his parents and 5 siblings. Survivors include his wife, Linda; three daughters Deanna (Brian), Jennifer, Melissa (Nathan); brother, "Butch"; 10 grandchildren (Jesse, Tyler , Kaitlynn, Rachel, Alexander, Alexis, Caedyn, Grace, Dayton , and Niekolaas; and 1 great grandchild and another on the way.

Military honors burial at Willamette National Cemetery will be on Friday, January 10, 2020 at 1:00 pm . A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, January 11, 2020 at Silver Creek Fellowship, 822 Industrial Way NE , Silverton , OR 97381 , at 2:00 pm .
