Mt. Angel–Sarah Jane Orange Harper "Jane"

(July 26, 1929-2021) passed away peacefully in Salem of natural causes on January 8. Born and raised in Pilot Rock, Oregon, with loving parents, Memory  D. and Adelaide Orange.

Jane married Myron Harper January 16, 1949, farmed in the Lake Labish - Brooks area and were married 63 years and until Myron's death in 2011.  They had 3 children, Bonnie (Marc) Henny of Brooks, Oregon, Clay (Susan) Harper of Post Falls, Idaho and Ann Harper, five grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.  During their marriage, they made a home for several foster children from 1958 through 1977, and extended their home to many IFYE (foreign exchange) students throughout the years and fed and housed many young men every summer to work on the farm.

Farming, painting, writing and gardening were Jane's lifelong passions. She enjoyed selling her books at the author's table, Oregon State Fairgrounds and holiday craft fairs.  She was a farm wife that also served as Pioneer Elementary School Clerk and a post office mail lady for many years.  She was a 4-H leader and Marion County Soil & Water Conservation director.

In recent years, Jane enjoyed living in the Mt. Angel Towers filled with her many friends.  She enjoyed weekly bus trips to swim at the Woodburn Pool until 2020, when COVID closed the pool. Her favorite exercise was bicycling around the Towers campus, with her 2 wheel Schwinn bike, until 89 ^th birthday.   Jane enjoyed every holiday with the family including Thanksgiving 2020.

Jane is preceded in death by her parents,  husband, Myron S Harper, brothers, Rodney Orange, a WWII hero who died in the jungles of New Guinea, Dr. Philip Orange, and Craig Orange.

A memorial celebration and internment will be held at Pioneer Memorial Cemetery, January 21, 2021.  Arrangements by Unger Funeral Chapel, Silverton, Oregon.

In lieu of flowers the family requests a donation to PMCA (Pioneer Memorial Cemetery), P.O. Box 9134, Brooks, OR  97305 (a non-profit corporation).
