Sherman Odell Rogers passed away  with his  family surrounding him on February 12th at the age of 89.

He was born in Lead Hill, AK, January 13, 1933. Sherman was always respected as an honorable person He found it easy not to judge others nor be swayed by their judgement. This characteristic found him much respect his entire life, in the field of life and sports.

In Yakima, where they had moved to in 1941, in high school and in Junior college he was honored for his excellence in basketball, football and baseball and he played baseball in the service in Korea when he went overseas at the time of the signing of the truce.

Family became his leading interest in 1957. While working at Boing on the B52 Bomber, he and his wife, Barbara, began their family of four. She died of cancer in 1979. The family had moved to Portland in 1969. His love for sports was carried over into those years with family: motorcycling, camping; and later, running.

Sherman is preceded in death by his parents; Barbara, his wife of 23 years, and his daughter, Kimberly, and all 7 of his siblings.

He will be missed greatly by his wife, Yvonne, of 42 years; his son, Steven Rogers; daughter, Suzanna Rogers; son, Jason Rogers, foster son, James Nestle and his grandchildren: Elizabeth Dingus, Emily Chang, Anna Rogers, Katelyn Cureton, and Brandon Rogers.

Sherman and Yvonne enjoyed many hours on his motorcycling, camping, and touring in their motorhome across the United States, playing golf and enjoying, so much, the many hours with the grandchildren, a great gift from his children.

He is remembered by his generous spirit and desire to care for others. His love for the bible grew over the years as well as his easy way of living it out in his life. He especially loved serving food in food kitchen in Portland and In Florida where he and Yvonne spent many summers.

When covid set in he taught his wife to play pool at The Towers in Mount Angel where they had moved to in 2019. He had learned to play in high school while volunteering at the fire station in Yakima, WA.

Whether on the golf course or with friends and family he was seen by all as a giving, strong but gentle father, friend, and husband.

Funeral services will be February 22 at 11:00am at St. Mary's at 575 E. College Street, Mount Angel, preceded by the Rosary and viewing at 10:30. Live streaming will be available on the St. Mary's website:  www.stmarymtangel.org. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to www.smiletrain.org
