Sheryl “Sherrie” Ann (McIntosh) Bashaw passed away peacefully at her Salem, Oregon home with her family present on the morning of Aug. 23, 2026, at the age of 65. She was a beloved wife, daughter, mother, Godmother, grandmother, teacher, coach, and friend.

Sherrie was born on Apr. 7, 1961, to John and Barbara McIntosh in Dallas, Oregon. She attended Dallas High School and then Western Baptist College, where she was a dual sport athlete, competing in both volleyball and basketball. She later would return to the newly renamed Corban College for her master’s in education.

Sherrie met the love of her life, Dave Bashaw, while playing coed city volleyball in Salem. Dave proposed to Sherrie after an extended 6 week courtship! They were married on Dec. 6, 1986, in Dallas. Some questioned the relatively short period of time prior to the wedding, but their nearly 40-year marriage proved that they were meant for each other.

Like her mother, Sherrie was a lifelong teacher and coach. She first taught at St. Vincent elementary school before moving on to Blanchet Catholic High School. She coached volleyball at Gervais High School, Dallas High School, Blanchet, and several Club Volleyball organizations. She was passionate about everything involving the support of Blanchet and its students. She started many traditions at Blanchet including the annual Shoe Battle, locker decorations, Stations of the Cross, Veterans’ Mass, March Madness, and birthday cupcakes. She referred to her students and athletes as her kids and encouraged them to reach their full potential.

Sherrie was a devout Catholic and loved praying the rosary. She was artistic and excelled at creative endeavors, including drawing, designing, decorating, and singing. That creativity was channeled into baking wedding cakes as well as other desserts. She was very empathetic, always looking out for the underdogs and those less fortunate in life, and was a great listener. She was very competitive and strong willed (possibly even stubborn), which is what kept her strong in her battle against cancer for several years.

She retired from teaching and coaching a year early due to her diagnosis. This gave her more time to be with her family and do the things she loved to do with them: watching her kids and grandkids play sports, baking birthday cakes, playing games, going on trips, and just spending time with them.

Sherrie is survived by her mother, Barbara; husband, Dave; daughters Kelsey (Carl) Beyer and Katie (Jake) Hyde; son Michael; and grandchildren Connor, Travis, Hailey, Justin, Chase, Lauren, Brianna, and another expected baby Hyde.

Rosary, funeral, and burial details have not yet been determined.
