Stephen George Pappani passed away August 29 at the Providence Bendictine Nursing Center in Mt. Angel, Oregon. He was born on November 22, 1949,in Gilroy, California to George and Virginia Pappani and was the only grandson of Virgil A. and Pearl Smith and Arnold and Tina Pappani .
He was one of twins. He attended Gilroy schools until he moved with his family to McCall, Idaho, in 1962.
He graduated from McCall-Donnelly High School in 1967 and from the University of Idaho in 1972 with a Master's degree in Political Science. He moved to Bakersfield, California and worked for as an analyst for Continental Telephone Company. He was a lifelong fan of the San Francisco Giants and Forty Niners.
He transferred to Silverton, Oregon and eventually opened Steve's Bookstore there. Later he became a supervisor at T-Mobile and later for Business Solutions, retiring in2015. Steve loved his family, faith, friends, and fishing. He learned to trout fish as a young boy from his Grandpa Virgil. A member of St. Paul's Church in Silverton, he was at peace with God and assisted many there.
He grew a big garden every year and gave much of it (and his fish) away. He enjoyed having ladies from his church and neighborhood over for dinner. He loved to make 100's of raviolis at a time and he was an expert at it.
Steve was a kind, generous soul who cared for his parents until their deaths.
He is survived by his sister JoAnn Bruns of Tillamook, his treasured friend and companion Claire Cunningham of Silverton and Roseburg, by Darrick and Jacque Bruns and their children Henry and Avery Bruns of Corvallis and many cousins in California.
Donations in his name may be made to the William T. Bruns Foundation in Tillamook, to help buy fishing and hunting licenses for kids under 18 years of age.
He will be lovingly missed.
Services have been scheduled for Saturday, October 3, 2020 at 11 am at St. Paul's Catholic Church - Silverton, Oregon.
