Obituary

Theresa Katherine Hughes

May 3, 1964 - Jan 07, 2019

Salem - Theresa Katherine Hughes, 54, passed away at Salem Hospital, on January 07, 2019.

Theresa was born in Covington, Kentucky, to David and Betty (Brooks) Hughes, one of 10 children.  She attended school and was raised in the Covington area until she was 8-years-old when her family moved to North Carolina.  In her younger years Theresa worked on a tobacco farm supervising a crew. She enjoyed farming and so began her deep appreciation of the outdoors and landscaping, yard work, flower and vegetable gardening throughout her life.  While in North Carolina Theresa met Jolene and later followed Jolene to the Salem area in 1991. Where she earned her GED and her Electronics degree.

In addition to gardening and yard-work, Theresa enjoyed fishing, woodworking, and art.  Her love of electronics and fixing things lead her to become a Technician with the Oregon State Lottery, where she remained until she became disabled in 2000. Theresa was a devoted mother to her daughter, Brandy, and loved her family and dogs above all else.

She will be reunited in heaven with her siblings, father, and her beloved dog, Buddy.

Theresa is survived by Jolene, her partner of 27 years, daughter, Brandy (David Taffolla) Hughes; grandson, Brayden Metzger; mother, Betty; siblings; Renee Rodgers, Jesse Ray Moore, Donna Rhodes, David Hughes, and Kenny Schmidt; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Celebration of her life will take place from 1:00 p.m to 5:00 p.m, on Saturday, January 12, 2019, at the home she shared with Jolene.  The address is: 2000 Robins Ln SE Spc 8, Salem, OR 97306
