Arlene Mae (Weber) Meyer welcomed Thomas Jay Meyer on September 4th, 1944 in Newport, Washington. Tommy's father, Elmer H. Meyer, coming home from the Pacific Theater after World War Two, first met his son in April 1946. Soon younger sister Jean arrived.

In 1948, the growing Meyer family moved to a tiny house in Mill Town area of Silverton. Siblings Larry, Susan, David, and Karen were soon born, leaving the tiny Mill Town house bursting at the seams. By 1955 Elmer started the Meyer Construction Company and moved his family into a two-story craftsman at 310 Mill Street, where the family grew up.

Tom first attended Eugene Field and later went to Saint Paul's Catholic Grade School. He graduated from Serra Catholic High School in Salem. In 1964 he joined the Navy Sea Bees. He was deployed to Vietnam to build air strips and buildings but also spent a year cruising on his motorcycle seeing the sights in Morocco. Following four years in the Navy, he attended Oregon Institute of Technology in Klamath Falls, where he achieved an engineering degree. After which he joined his father's agricultural construction company. When Elmer retired, Meyer Construction Company became TJ Meyer & Associates, the company from which Tom eventually retired.

Growing up, Tommy was known as the best snow fort builder in Silverton. He commandeered his younger siblings to make snowballs as he designed a large structure with high walls. Summers were spent helping local farmers, picking berries & beans with other local children. He also won several soap box derbies.

Tom loved spending time with family, especially his many nieces & nephews. He enjoyed building World War era model airplanes & battle ships, playing board games, and was an avid Bridge player like all of the Meyer children. He mastered the Labyrinth tilting maze game, earning admiration of his siblings. He skied and hiked and loved to fish, owning several small boats for fishing in the Reservoir. In the later years, Tom's interest in world history led to his reading many historical books & visiting museums. He enjoyed his annual vegetable gardens, and also spent countless hours putting together jigsaw puzzles.

Tom passed away at St. Vincents Hospital in Portland, Oregon on August 15, 2025 surrounded by family. He is survived by siblings, Jean Welch (Gregg), Larry Meyer (Christine), Susan Morgan, and David Meyer (Denise), as well as 22 nieces & nephews, 26 great nieces & nephews, and one great-great nephew. He was preceded in death by his loving parents, sister Karen, and nephew Ethan.

Celebration of Life will be held at the Elk's Lodge at 300 High Street, Silverton OR on Sunday, August 31, 2025 at 1:00 pm. Please bring any special memories of Tom you can share.
