On January 30th, 2026 Wayne Lee Smith passed away peacefully at the age of 88 surrounded by his family.

Wayne was born in Fort Lupton Colorado on August 21st, 1937 to Ivan and Elinor Smith. Wayne grew up building houses and raising chickens. He had a quick wit and got into plenty of mischief before joining the Air Force December 31, 1954.

Stationed in England during his time in the Air Force, Wayne enjoyed exploring Europe. Upon returning from England, he attended night school to become an Electrical Engineer.  In 1965 he joined Pacific Northwest Bell where he worked until retiring in 1997.

He married Donna DeSantis in 1961, they had five wonderful children together. Wayne spent evenings and weekends working on houses with his children, passing along his knowledge and work ethic. Wayne was loved by his nieces and nephews who grew up experiencing his pranks and words of wisdom.

Wayne was a member of the local Knights of Columbus and the Silverton Elks Club. He spent many years volunteering at St. Paul's Church, helping with dinners and funeral luncheons.

Wayne was the consummate jokester, always looking to make someone smile or laugh. He loved fishing and camping. At home he could be found tinkering in his workshop or in the garden. He loved having a dog to provide companionship throughout his life.

Wayne is survived by his wife Donna and children; Brian (Petra), Vicki (Mark), Shelly (Johan), Tamra (Mitch), and Daron (Holly). Wayne has nine grandchildren; Landon, Morgan, Chase, Sadie, Megan, Karla, Claire, Stella, and Olivia.

His service will be February 26th at 10:30 am at St. Paul's Church in Silverton.
