Anatomy Gifts Registry

The mission of Anatomy Gifts Registry’s caring and compassionate whole body donation program is to serve meritorious scientists, clinicians and educators with expertly prepared human anatomical gift specimens.

AGR maintains a contemporary surgical skills training center featuring a modern atmosphere coupled with a technologically advanced conference and classroom suite. Additionally, the organization hosts an on-site crematory.

We are Marion-Polk’s anti-poverty professionals and the area’s leading non-profit social services provider. Since our founding, we've seen many challenges and worked to meet them with innovative, evidence-based programs and a research-centric approach. Mesothelioma Center

The Mesothelioma Center provides a monthly online support group where we discuss a variety of topics pertaining to cancer patients. There is also an on-staff doctor and nurse available to answer any medical-related questions with 24-hour live chat support. Their patient advocates work 1-on-1 with individuals to help them find local doctors, treatment centers and support groups.


Mesothelioma Hope

At Mesothelioma Hope, we offer free resources that are reviewed by certified oncologists and provide detailed information about mesothelioma and its health impacts. Our mission is to raise awareness about cancer and other asbestos-related diseases such as mesothelioma.


Mesothelioma Veterans Center

Mesothelioma Veterans Center is dedicated to improving the overall quality of life for individuals diagnosed with asbestos-related diseases. Our pages are medically reviewed and verified by certified oncologists and hematologists, and provide the most current and detailed information about the asbestos industry and its health impacts. It is our mission to raise awareness and reach those who may need our assistance.

Hospice Care

Willamette Valley Hospice

Willamette Valley Hospice, a non-profit organization founded in 1978 and located in Salem, Oregon, provides comprehensive hospice care services, pain management, grief services, and support for those patients and families facing serious or life-limiting illness. Willamette Valley Hospice supports adults and children living with a serious or life-limiting illness throughout Marion and Polk counties and beyond.


Grief Support

Camp Mighty Oaks

Families with children ages 6+ are encouraged to attend Camp Mighty Oaks if they have experienced the death of a loved one during the last two years. Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

At Camp Mighty Oaks, families will celebrate the memory of their loved one on a summer day full of fun-filled activities that promote hope and healing. All activities are optional. Lunch & dinner are included.

Drop-In Grief Groups for Adults

WVH offers free bereavement support groups and workshops to anyone in our community who has faced the recent death of a loved one – whether or not they used WVH hospice or palliative care services. Families that utilized WVH hospice care for their loved one also have the option of short-term counseling with our bereavement counselors.

Our Town - Mt. Angel Publishing

Publication dates are on the 1st and 15th of each month. At the editor's discretion, obituary information may be run for free (size, space, etc., will vary), with a photo. Silverton Appeal (Owned by Statesman Journal)

Follow the same directions as seen below for Statesman Journal. You will have the option to post to Statesman Journal, Silverton Appeal, and Stayton Mail. All you need to do is specify.

The Statesman Journal

Salem area newspaper. Free death notice, deadline is 12:00 p.m. Monday - Friday. Can be submitted online or by email. Paid obituaries may be submitted by 12:00 p.m. Monday - Friday, and are approximately $1/word (with or without photo). All weekend and Monday deadlines are Friday.


To submit an obituary to The Statesman Journal, send an email to obituary@statesmanjournal.com.


Please include the following information in your email:

  1. Your contact information: Name, Billing Address, Phone Number and Email Address
  2. The exact text you want to be printed
  3. Any photo(s) you would like printed (maximum of 2 photos)
  4. The name of the funeral home taking care of arrangements
  5. The phone number of the funeral home taking care of arrangements
  6. The name of our paper
  7. The date(s) you would like to see your obituary printed

The Woodburn Independent (Pamplin Media Group)

Local Woodburn newspaper. Death Notices are free of charge. The cost for the tribute will depend on how many words and photos in the obituary. These tributes are written by the family and can include anything the family desires. Typical information includes: accomplishments, activities, life history, extended family and friends, etc.

Veterans

U.S. Dept. of Veterans Affairs

Veterans Benefits: Survivors of any person who was an active or retired member of the military at time of death, or an honorably discharged veteran, may be eligible for a number of benefits, including:

  • An American flag (usually drapes the casket).
  • Burial in a National Cemetery.
  • Flat bronze, flat marble, flat granite, or upright marble markers.
  • A lump sum payment of $300.00 is usually available to families of those veterans that were entitled to receive VA compensation or pension at time of death (such as retirees), or veterans who died while a registered patient in a VA hospital or other accredited VA facility. If one of these circumstances apply and a National Cemetery is not utilized, up to $300.00 could be reimbursed as a plot or interment allowance (requires proof of payment to a non-VA cemetery. Private cemeteries usually assist you by filing this benefit in your behalf). For veterans who die of a service connected disability, the VA could pay an allowance to reimburse funeral costs of $1500.00 or less (no additional VA death benefits would be available). Active duty military personnel are usually entitled to a greater amount, which can vary.
  • If not remarried, the surviving spouse is eligible for burial in the National Cemetery. Dependent children of the veteran are also eligible. •There is no time limit for when a family may apply for a marker. We will be pleased to make an application for these benefits on your behalf if you will provide us with the veteran's Honorable Discharge papers.

Social Security

United States Social Security Administration

Social Security The following checklist is designed to help you file for your Social Security benefits correctly so that prompt payments may be made. ELIGIBILITY The deceased worker must have credit for work covered by Social Security, ranging from 1 1/2 to 10 years depending on his or her age at death. WHO MAY RECEIVE MONTHLY BENEFITS

  • A widow or widower age 60 or older (50 if disabled), or at any age if caring for an entitled child who is under 16 or disabled.
  • A divorced widow or widower age 60 or older (50 if disabled) if the marriage lasted 10 years, or if caring for an entitled child who is under 16 or disabled.
  • Unmarried children up to 18 (19 if they are attending a primary or secondary school full lime).
  • Children who were disabled before reaching 22, as long as they remained disabled.
  • Dependent parent or parents 62 or older. LUMP-SUM DEATH PAYMENT A one time payment of $255 is paid in addition to the monthly cash benefits described above. The lump-sum death payment (LSDP) is paid in the following priority order:
  • A surviving spouse who lived in the same household as the deceased person at the time of death.
  • A surviving spouse eligible for or entitled to benefits for the month of death.
  • A child or children eligible for or entitled to benefits for the month of death. APPLYING FOR BENEFITS You must apply in order to receive benefits. You may apply at any Social Security office or, if you wish, you may apply by telephone. Just dial the toll-free number 1-800-772-1213 and the operator will schedule an appointment for you or arrange for the local Social Security office to take your claim by telephone.
